Our Story
A Promise to Felix Dog Rescue started as an idea to help a little pup called Felix come over to the UK from Romania and find him a lovely forever home. Most of the dogs that come under Felix’s care are saved from the horrors of the Romanian Public Shelters or Kill Shelters as they’re known, so called as many dogs sadly don’t make it out. In Romania dog catchers round up strays and street dogs and these are sent to the Public Shelter along with owner surrenders.
Felix works with a wonderful lady called Laura, and has done since 2018. She runs her rescue in Romania and works tirelessly to save as many dogs as she can mainly single handedly with the day to day running of her shelter. Laura pulls dogs from the Public Shelter, she has calls to go find, catch and save dumped puppies and she has people bring their pets to her when they no longer want them, she’s always full with over 300 dogs to care for. To enable her to carry on her rescue some of the dogs are sponsored by supporters of her shelter, Felix pays a huge part in this - many of our Facebook group members sponsor one or even 2 dogs in Laura’s care and Felix sponsor several dogs. The £30 sponsorship per month feeds, worms, de fleas and inoculates the dogs ready in the hope that they will soon make their journey to a loving forever home. All the dogs we bring over have a thorough health check, a passport and are tested for diseases.
Felix has a small band of merry fosterers here in the UK, all experienced dog owners that welcome the rescue dogs when they arrive in the UK into their homes for assessment and sometimes rehabilitation until their adoption. It’s not always an easy job, it can be tiring, often there’s tears when the dogs go to their new homes, we sometimes even ‘fosterfail’ when we can’t bear to let them go! But one thing we all agree, it’s always rewarding – to see the dogs go from a nervous unsure dog that first arrives, to a dog brimming with confidence and loving life. And this is what it’s all about working as a team, Felix rescue, the fosterers, Laura and the future adopters all have one aim, to give a dog with no chance of a future………..a happy life in a loving home.
